Volleyball To Honor Seniors, Host Cornell, Columbia

PHILADELPHIA -  The University of Pennsylvania women's volleyball team (10-9, 5-5 Ivy) hosts their final two matches this weekend at The Palestra as they take on Cornell on Friday at 7 p.m. and conclude the weekend on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Columbia for senior night. The Quakers will honor their six seniors Hayley Molnar, Michelle Pereira, Kendall Covington, Aimee Stephenson, Emily Friedler, and Sydney Morton for their contributions to the Penn volleyball program over the past four years. 

On the court, the Red and Blue will look to avoid the sweep against Cornell as they fell 3-1 in the first meeting on the road. Meanwhile Penn will try to complete the sweep against Columbia for the first time since 2010.

*Senior Spotlight

* #3 Hayley Molnar

- As a junior Molnar registered 22 starts and was just one of three players to see action in every set. 
- Molnar has had her best year to date. 
- Has hit 10 or more kills in six matches this season. 
- Tied her career high with 16 kills against Yale last weekend. 
- Has earned career highs in total blocks and attack percentage. 

* #5 Michelle Pereira 

- Won the Claire Rauscher Achievement Award as a freshman. 
- Her 5.26 digs per set as a sophomore ranked second in the Ivy League in conference play. 
- Had 20 or more digs in 11 games her junior year including her career high 37 digs against Ivy foe, Dartmouth. 
- Has hit 131 aces throughout her career. 

* #10 Kendall Covington

- Four-year starter.
- Penn's Co-rookie of the Year as a freshman along with Emily Friedler
- Two-time team captain along with Sydney Morton
- Has career-high numbers in kills, attack percentage, and blocks this season. 

* #16 Aimee Stephenson

- Started 21 matches as a freshman. 
- Finished fourth on the team in her rookie year with 109 kills and her 129 digs ranked fifth. 
- Appeared in all but five matches as a sophomore and junior. 

* #18 Emily Friedler

- Her 418 digs ranked fourth in the Ivy League and tops among freshman and had double-digit digs in all but three matches. 
- Co-Rookie of the year along with Kendall Covington.
- As a junior, she recorded 233 digs and ranked third on the team with 23 aces. 
- Has had over 100 digs in each of her four years and her 133 this season ranks fourth on the team. 

* #21 Sydney Morton

- Two-time captain along with Kendall Covington.
- Earned honorable mention All-Ivy and Academic All-Ivy last year after ranking fifth among Ivy players in assists per set. 
- This season, Morton is just one of three players in the Ivy with more than 700 assists. 
- Has surpassed 50 assists on three occasions including her career best 55 in a 3-2 win over Columbia earlier this year. 

*About Penn

* The Quakers are winners of three of their last five which included back to back wins last weekend against Brown and the Ivy League's top team Yale. 

* Saturday marks senior night. As a group the six seniors have won 41 games. 

* Penn has a 4-3 record this season at The Palestra and have won three of their last four home games. 

* The Red and Blue rank fourth in the Ivy League in hitting percentage and have hit the third most kills. 

* Freshman Parker Jones leads the Ivy League in kills as she has hit 259 this season. Jones needs just two kills this weekend to move into third place in the program's history for most kills by a freshman. The leader is Lauren Martin who had 332 in 2009. 

* Kendall Covington ranks fifth in the Ivy League in attack percentage. The senior is hitting with a .333 efficiency. She is just eight kills away from 600 for her career. 

* Senior Sydney Morton is just one of three players in the Ivy League with over 700 assists.

* Sophomore libero, Caroline Furrer ranks 6th in the Ivy League with 252 digs. She also has the fourth most aces with 26. 

* Since the beginning of Ivy League play, senior Hayley Molnar ranks second on the team in kills as she has hit 94. Molnar is just 41 kills from reaching 500 for her career. 

Scouting the Big Red

* Penn leads the all-time series 43-28, but lost the last meeting earlier this season 3-1. 

* Cornell has won three in a row in the series, its longest winning streak since winning three straight during the 1990 and 1991 seasons.

* The Big Red have won four of their last five matches. 

* Jenna Phelps has the most aces in the Ivy League with 35. 

* Kiley McPeek tops the Ivy League in digs. She is the only player to have over 300 as she has 360 and is averaging nearly five digs per set. With her 59 digs in two matches three weeks ago, McPeek won Ivy League Player of the Week. 

* Scouting the Lions

* The Quakers lead the all-time series 51-8 and won the previous meeting this season 3-2 and go for their 11th sweep over the Lions. 

* After starting 0-6 in Ivy League play, the Lions have won their last four, all of which have been at home. 

* The Lions rank first in the Ivy League in aces. As a team they have hit 132. 

* Anja Malesovic ranks first in the Ivy League in kills per set with 3.96 and won player of the week last week. 

* Chichi Ikwuazom ranks first in the conference in attack percentage as she has hit with a .391 efficiency. Ikwuazom also ranks first in blocks. 

* Grace Campbell's .50 aces per set ranks second in the Ivy League.
