THE SERIES
• This is the first meeting between the Quakers and the Nittany Lions in men's basketball.
• This marks the second non-Division 1 game Penn has played in the
Steve Donahue coaching era. The Quakers hosted Ursinus College on December 19, 2015 and defeated the Bears, 73-66.
PENN BY THE NUMBERS
3 • This is the third season for Penn's John R. Rockwell Head Coach of Men's Basketball,
Steve Donahue. Prior to his return to University City, where he was an assistant coach for 10 years, Donahue was head at Cornell and Boston College.
3 • Senior
Caleb Wood has hit a trio of three-pointers in each of Penn's games so far this season; in fact, nine of his 11 made field goals have come from beyond the arc. He had 13 points vs. Navy on Wednesday, his first double-figure scoring game since he had 15 at Navy last season (Nov. 26).
8 • Following this home game, the third home game in five days, the Quakers will hit the road for their next eight games starting with three at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., next Monday through Wednesday. After Saturday's contest, Penn's next home game is not until December 27 when Delaware State comes to town.
9 • The number of games that Penn will play in November, a program record. In an informal survey of the other SIDs around the country, only Chicago State (with 10) will play more games before the calendar turns to December.
11 • Consecutive games in which sophomore
Ryan Betley has scored in double figures, dating back to last season; he has averaged 17.2 ppg in those contests including 47 points so far this year (20 at Fairfield, 14 vs. La Salle, 13 vs. Navy).
12 • Players on this year's roster with at least one double-figure scoring game at Penn. That includes six players who have had at least one 20-point game, and five with at least one double-double.
+19 • Penn is +19 in turnovers through the early part of the season, committing 31 while opponents have committed 50. The Quakers also enjoy a +26 advantage in points off turnovers through three games.
39 • Three-point shots taken by Penn last Saturday at Fairfield, a program record for a game. The previous mark (38) was set last year vs. Saint Joseph's.
45 • Navy's 45 points on Wednesday matched the fewest by an opponent in the Donahue coaching era at Penn. The Quakers held Binghamton to 45 in an 80-45 win on January 2, 2016. Navy also had just four assists, an opponent low in the Donahue era.
