Men's Basketball Ready For Home Opener Monday vs. La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – Just two days after opening the 2017-18 season with an 80-72 loss at Fairfield, the University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team will play its home opener. The Quakers host Big 5 rival La Salle Monday night, a game that will tip off at 7 p.m.

A reminder for fans in the Philadelphia viewing area that they can watch the game live on NBC Sports Philadelphia (formerly Comcast SportsNet). Outside of the Philly viewing area, Monday's game can be viewed on the subscription-based Ivy League Network.

THE SERIES
• Penn has won two in a row over the Explorers and holds a 40-30 lead overall in the series with its Big 5 rival.
 
• In last year's game, a 77-74 win at La Salle, AJ Brodeur set the program's freshman scoring record with 35 points.
 
• In the most recent meeting here at The Palestra, two years ago, the Quakers snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Explorers with an 80-64 victory.
 
• By calendar date, this is the earliest meeting between these Big 5 rivals and just the second ever in November.

The Quakers are 93-107 all-time against programs that currently play in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Penn will meet two more A-10 foes later this season, traveling to Dayton on December 9 and hosting Saint Joseph's on January 27.

3 • This is the third season for Penn's John R. Rockwell Head Coach of Men's Basketball, Steve Donahue. Prior to his return to University City, where he was an assistant coach for 10 years, Donahue was head at Cornell and Boston College.
 
9 • Consecutive games in which sophomore Ryan Betley has scored, dating back to last season; he has averaged 18.0 points per game in those contests and gone for double-doubles in the last two, including 20 points and 10 rebounds Saturday at Fairfield.
