PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team (5-5, 2-1) got back to their winning ways with a 3-0 shutout victory over Dartmouth (4-6, 1-2) on Saturday afternoon. The Quakers saw goals from three different scorers as Penn celebrated Play4TheCure on behalf of the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
HOW IT HAPPENED
*The Quakers dominated the contest from start to finish and saw two good looks at goal from the get-go. It took just nine minutes to take the 1-0 advantage when
Gina Guccione deflected in a
Sofia Palacios shot at the 8:46 mark as Penn took the early lead.
*The Red and Blue continued to control the action and saw another good look at net in the 18
th minute when
Rachel Mirkin found a loose ball in front a crowd in the circle, but the Dartmouth defense held firm to quell the Penn attack.
*Penn had five corners and an 8-3 advantage in shots during the first 35 minutes of action and took the 1-0 lead into intermission.
*Penn continued to put on the pressure coming out of halftime. It took just three minutes into the second stanza to notch their second score of the match when
Rachel Huang tipped in a ball to the left post on an
Alexa Hoover hit to put the Quakers up 2-0.
*Just over 10 minutes later, Penn solidified the 3-0 victory off a well-executed penalty corner in the 49
th minute.
Alexa Schneck placed a rocket to the far post on a Huang insert and
Paige Meily stick stop as the Red and Blue solidified the 3-0 victory.
*The Quakers had several good looks at net and recorded a season-high 20 shots and 12 shots on goal for the afternoon. On the defensive end, sophomore goalkeeper
Ava Rosati collected her first career win with five saves on the day.

Penn returns to action with two away games next weekend. They'll travel to Columbia on Friday, Oct. 20 and return to action on Sunday, Oct. 15 at Temple.
