Volleyball Continues Homestand With Brown, Yale

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's volleyball team (8-9, 3-5 Ivy) continues their five game home stand to open up the second half of Ivy League play this week as they take on Brown (6-13, 1-7 Ivy) and Yale (13-14, 7-1 Ivy). On Friday, the Quakers will take on Brown at 7 p.m., a team they beat 3-2 earlier this year. The Red and Blue will then look to avoid the sweeo against Yale on Saturday at 5 p.m.

About Penn

* The Quakers are 2-3 at The Palestra this season. 

* In the team's 3-2 win over Brown earlier in the year, it not only marked Katie Schumacher-Cawley's first Ivy League win, it was also the first time that the Quakers had defeated Brown away from the Palestra since 2013. 

* Penn is riding a three match win streak at The Palestra against Brown. The team's last loss against the Bears at home was also in 2013 coming in a 3-2 loss, 15-13 in the fifth set. 

* The Quakers rank fourth in the Ivy in hitting percentage as they are hitting .222 as a team. 

* Freshman Parker Jones leads the Ivy League in kills with 232. Her 3.36 kills per set also lead the team.

* In the first meeting against Brown, Jones had 13 kills and capped off yet another double-double with 14 digs. 

* Kendall Covington has been the most efficient Quaker outside hitter this season hitting .334. That mark also ranks sixth in the Ivy League. 

* Sophomore Caroline Furrer ranks fifth in the Ivy League with 221 digs and has also hit the third most aces as she has 24 on the year. 

* Since entering conference play, freshman Raven Sulaimon has hit 67 kills which ranks third on the team in conference games. Hayley Molnar is right ahead of her with 70. 

* Sydney Morton's 658 assists rank third in the Ivy League and have put her on pace to beat last year's mark of 808 as she is hitting 1.5 more assists per set this season. 

Scouting the Bears

* With a win, the Quakers will have swept Brown for the first time since 2012. 

* Brown's lone win in Ivy League play came in a 3-1 win over Columbia.

* Jacqueline Jacobs ranks fourth in the Ivy League in blocks.

* In the Bears' loss to the Quakers earlier in the year, they actually hit more kills than the Red and Blue hitting 55 kills to Penn's 51. 

Scouting the Bulldogs

* Only loss came in a 3-1 defeat to Princeton.

* Yurikia Boyd won last week's Ivy League rookie of the week posting 27 digs against Brown.

* The Bulldogs have won five in a row. During the winning streak streak, the Bulldogs have not had the same student-athlete lead in kills for consecutive matches. 

* Yale ranks second in the Ivy League in hitting percentage hitting .242 and Izzy Simqu leads the way as she has averaged a .361 hit percentage this season which also ranks second. Simqu also ranks fifth in the conference in blocks. 

* Kate Swanson ranks third in the Ivy League as she has averaged 4.06 digs per set.
