PREVIEWING PENN
*The Quakers are coming off a tough-luck loss on the road in their final non-conference match of the year Tuesday at West Virginia. Penn held the advantage over the Mountaineers in shots and corners and the half but were unable to hold on in the second period, eventually getting burned on a penalty kick to make the final score 1-0.
Jake Kohlbrenner and
Sam Wancowicz each had two shots in the loss for the Red and Blue.
*In their last Ivy contest, the Quakers experienced their highest offensive output of the season, utilizing early aggression to take down Yale 4-1 on Rhodes Field. Senior
Joe Swenson played a part in four of Penn's goals, scoring three himself and providing an assist on the other, good enough to earn both Ivy League and Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week accolades.
*Swenson currently ranks tied for first in the Ivy League in goals (7) while ranking second in points (16). His seven points accumulated in the win over the Bulldogs are tied for the fourth-most by any player in the country this fall, as only three players across the nation have totaled more in one outing.
*Both
Dami Omitaomu and
Jerel Blades notched assists in the victory over the Bulldogs. Blades and Kohlbrenner sit tied for second on the team in points with five each.
*Junior
Scott Forbes has started each of the past three games for Penn, going 1-2. On the year, Forbes owns a GAA of 1.88 and has collected 21 saves in 810 minutes played.
*Penn is tied with Brown and Yale with five points in the Ivy League standings, just one point behind fourth-place Harvard.
NEWS AND NOTES: BROWN
*Brown sports an overall record of 7-4-2 on the year heading into Saturday's contest, but is level with Penn in the Ivy League standings at 1-2-1 against conference opponents this fall. In the Ancient Eight, Brown has lost to both Columbia and Cornell, beaten Princeton and drawn with Harvard.
*The Quakers trail the all-time series against the Bears 25-30-8. Penn defeated Brown for the first time since 2010 last year on a stellar performance from
Dami Omitaomu who provided two goals including the golden goal in a 2-1 double overtime victory. The Quakers are seeking their first win in Providence since 2009. Coach
Rudy Fuller is 6-11-2 in his tenure with the Red and Blue against Brown.
*Junior Toby Howell paces Brown on offense with 12 points on five goals and two assists, followed by Quinn English as the only other Bear with multiple goals this year. In the cage, Brown has relied on senior Joey Cipicchio in all 13 games, owning an impressive GAA of 0.81 with 41 saves to his name.
