Crews Complete Head of the Charles Races in Boston

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania rowing teams competed at the Head of the Charles over the weekend, with the three crews putting out a total of seven boats across six divisions. Two of the three women's crews in the race went on Saturday, with the third going on Sunday. The heavyweight 8+ also competed on Sunday, along with three lightweight boats.
 
The Head of the Charles is a three-mile, head-style regatta.
 
Women's Club 4+
Competed on Saturday, the women took second out of 53 boats with a time of 18:25.713. That was behind only Alabama, which clocked 18:02.402.
 
Womens' Club 8+
Also a Saturday race, Penn took third place out of 40 boats in 16:43.910. Radcliffe was divisional champion, in a time of 16:27.044, while Yale was second (16:40.376).
 
Men's Lightweight 4+
Penn finished seventh out of 17 boats, clocking 16:16.336. Yale was the divisional champion.
 
Men's Championship 8+
Penn was 20th out of 26 boats in the division, as the Quakers covered the course in 14:09.710. The University of California was the champion in this field.
 
Men's Lightweight 8+ (2 boats)
Penn's A boat was clocked in 14:12.858 and took fifth out of 16 boats in the field. The Quakers' B boat was 14th, in 14:45.521. The divisional champion was Princeton.
 
Women's Championship 8+
Penn took 18th out of 36 boats in the field, with a time of 15:45.962. Sudbury was the champion in this championship field, while the University of Washington was the highest-placing college team with a third-place finish.
