Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Swept by Princeton at Palestra

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's volleyball team (8-9, 3-5 Ivy) fell to the Princeton Tigers (13-5, 6-2 Ivy) for the second time this season by the score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-19). Playing at The Palestra for the first time in two weeks, the Quakers looked to take advantage of a Tigers team that had lost two straight. Unable to overcome the 20 errors that they hit throughout the match, the Quakers fell in straight sets for just the second time in 2017.

The Quakers will play their next four matches at The Palestra beginning with Brown and Yale next weekend.

Inside the Numbers

*The Quakers hit 20 errors compared to the Tigers' 15 and hit .152 to Princeton's .255.

* Raven Sulaimon, who has been one of the Quakers' most productive outside hitters over the past five games, earned her first career start. The freshman performed well, hitting 11 kills with an efficiency of .444, both of which lead the team.

* Parker Jones had nine kills on the evening which came in right behind Sulaimon. She was also the Quakers' secon- most efficient attacker, hitting .152.

* Caroline Furrer lead the team in digs with nine. It's the first time in six matches that the sophomore has had less than 10. She has 221 on the year.

*How it Happened

Looking to take advantage of a Princeton team that lost two straight on the road last weekend, the Quakers looked to get off to a fast start playing at home for the first time in two weeks. While the Red and Blue had the early lead in the first set, up 6-4, it was Princeton that went on an 7-2 run to separate and take an 11-8 lead. Penn didn't see the lead again. While the Quakers never quit and made it interesting at the end -- pulling within one at 24-23 behind kills from Hayley Molnar, Parker Jones, and Kendall Covington -- it was the Tigers that got the final point to take the first set 25-23.

The Quakers fell behind 6-1 to start the second set, but as we've learned so much this season, this is a team that doesn't quit when they're behind. The Red and Blue fought back to take a 14-12 lead behind two Tiger errors. However, a 7-2 run by Princeton put the Tigers up 22-17 which ended up being too much to overcome as the Quakers lost the second set, 25-19.

Much like the second set, the Quakers found themselves with a lead early on, up 10-9 after kills by Raven Sulaimon, Sydney Morton, and Jones. The Tigers, like the set before, went on a 7-2 run to go up 16-13. Another 7-2 run put Princeton up 23-17 and allowed them to close out the set 25-19.

What's Next

The Quakers stay at home with two more matches next weekend. The Red and Blue will take on Brown on Friday before facing Yale on Saturday.
