Field Hockey Becomes City 6 Champs with 4-2 Win Over Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team (6-6, 2-2) posted a 4-2 win over Temple (5-9, 0-5) to improve to 3-0 in City 6 action on Sunday. Four different Quakers recorded goals as Penn became unofficial city champs against their Philadelphia counterparts with today's victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
*Penn opened the game with a quick corner at the 5:13 mark to get their offensive firepower started on the afternoon. Alexa Schneck's shot was blocked on the attempt, but the Quakers saw another chance in the 12th minute from Alexa Hoover that sailed just wide.

*Despite the offensive onset, Temple was first to get on the board in the 18th minute for the 1-0 lead. Maddie Merton picked up a rebounded shot to give the Owls the advantage.

*The Quakers continued to push, but shots fell just wide of the net and Temple held on to the 1-0 advantage into intermission.

*Penn evened the score just over 10 minutes into the second frame when Gina Guccione redirected a Hoover shot to get the Red and Blue on the board. The tie wouldn't last long, however, as Temple's Cristen Barnett made the most of a Penn defensive turnover to push the hosts ahead, 2-1.

*The Quakers rallied hard over the next 20 minutes and registered the next three goals to pull away for the 4-2 victory. At the 61:40 mark, Schneck picked up a Hoover pass to once again tie the game at 2-2, and just three minutes later Erin Kelly notched her first collegiate goal for the go-ahead score. Hoover would add an insurance tally with just 1:11 on the clock when she pushed in the ball for the empty net score.

*The Red and Blue were clear winners in shots (17-10), shots on goal (10-3), and corners (10-2) as they made the most of their opportunities. On the defensive end, Ava Rosati made one save in the win while Temple's Chloe Johnson collected five in the loss.
