Penn-Princeton Box Score (PDF)

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania's men's basketball team came all the way back from 21 points down to tie the game in the second half, but eventually dropped a 61-52 decision to Princeton on Saturday night at Jadwin Gymnasium.

The Quakers, who were coming off three consecutive wins, drop to 6-6 on the season and 0-1 in the Ivy League.

*Freshman Ryan Betley also went for a career-best output with 11 points, making 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and adding a pair of free throws.

*Freshman AJ Brodeur tied a season low with six points, snapping a streak of nine consecutive double-figure scoring games. He finished 1-of-6 from the field, while grabbing eight rebounds.

How it Happened
It was a forgetful first half for the Quakers, as Coach Donahue's squad tallied its lowest scoring output of the season (17 points). Darnell Foreman provided the lone spark for the Red and Blue, with a team-high six points in the opening 20 minutes. The Quakers fell behind 6-0, and the lead ballooned to 22-12 and eventually a halftime deficit of 34-17—the largest Penn has seen this season.

Following that woeful first half, however, the Quakers responded in a big way in the second 20. After Princeton achieved it largest lead of the game at 39-18, the Red and Blue came alive. A three-pointer from Ryan Betley—the Quakers' first of the night—kick-started a 15-2 stretch for the Red and Blue. A 7-0 run—sparked by four points from Foreman and a three-ball from the freshman—cut the Tigers' lead to 39-25. Penn inched even closer to 41-33 and then 44-38. At that point, back-to-back three-pointers from Betley and Donahue remarkably tied the score at 44 apiece with 7:01 remaining.

With the score all knotted up, though, Princeton went on a run of its own. The Tigers scored seven in a row to go back up 51-44 at the 5:18 mark. After Donahue knocked in his third trey of the half to cut the margin to four, Princeton ended the game on a 10-5 run to seal the victory.
