Games Notes Versus Cornell, Nov. 21, 2015

Postgame Notes vs. Cornell
Nov. 21, 2015
Penn 34, Cornell 21

- Penn clinched its 17th Ivy League title with today’s win, the second most of any school.

- Head Coach Ray Priore became just the second coach in program history and seventh coach in Ivy history to win an Ivy title in his first season at the helm (Ed Zubrow, 1986).

- With Penn, Harvard, and Dartmouth all finishing with 6-1 records in Ivy play, this will be the fourth time in Ivy League history that three programs will split the conference title, the first since 1982 — where Penn, Harvard, and Dartmouth also split.

- Today's game was the 1,363rd game in school history, an NCAA record. The Quakers are one of only four schools in NCAA history (all levels) to reach 1,300 games played, as Yale, Rutgers, and Lehigh have each reached the milestone in the last year.

- Penn has not been shutout at home since Nov. 18, 1989 — a streak of 133 games.

- The matchup between Penn and Cornell was the 122nd between the two squads — the fifth-most played rivalry in Division I. The Red and Blue now lead the series 71-46-5.

- Since 1995, Penn and Cornell have played for the Trustees’ Cup. The Quakers have walked away with the trophy in 15 of the 21 years the Cup has been at stake.

- This marks the first win over Cornell at home for the Red and Blue since 2009.

- Junior Brian Schoenauer found the end zone on a six-yard rush to cap off the game’s opening drive. This marks the fourth time the Quakers have gotten on the board first this season. They are 4-0 in those contests.

- Schoenauer recorded his third 100-yard game on the ground this season, the third of his career.

- Penn has forced a turnover in 13 straight games, including 19 takeaways in the last six games (+13 turnover margin in those six contests).

- Senior wide receiver Eric Fiore threw a touchdown pass to classmate Ryan O’Malley in the first quarter, becoming the first non-quarterback to throw a touchdown for the Quakers since Oct. 10, 2009.

- SophomoreJustin Watsonhas had multiple receptions in all 20 games of his career, and has five or more catches in 13 of the last 14 games.

- Watson is the seventh player in school history with 1,500 career receiving yards.

- On his touchdown catch in the first quarter, Watson became the third player in program history to record 1,000 receiving yards in a season.

- Watson's two touchdown catches put him at nine the year, good for third-most in a season at Penn and the most since Dan Castles tied the school record with 13 in 2003.

- Watson eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the fifth straight game and sixth time in the last seven games.

- He became the third player in Ivy League history to record five straight 100-yard games and just the fourth to put up seven in an entire season.

- Watson moved into seventh-place all-time at Penn with 117 career receptions, passing former teammate Spencer Kulcsar.

- His 74 receptions on the season are fourth most in a single season in program history.

- Penn has won six straight for the first time since 2010 (won Ivy title).

- Penn's seven overall wins and six Ivy League wins are the most since 2010 and mark a winning record in Coach Priore's first season.

- Junior quarterbackAlek Torgersenhas a touchdown pass in 18 of 20 career games, including 14 of his 15 career Ivy contests.

- The Quakers have recorded a sack in 10 of the last 11 games.

- Torgersen has either passed or rushed for a touchdown in 16 straight games. He ran for two and passed for one on Saturday.

- He is now fourth all-time in career passing touchdowns with 35.

- In last six games, Torgersen is 6-0 with 1,460 yards, and 15 TDs (passing). Until the second quarter, he had not thrown an interception since Sept. 24 and in 162 attempts.

- With the exception of a single start missed by junior Dan Poulos, the Quakers started the same five players all 10 games this season with Poulos, seniors Jack York, Daniil Lysenko, and Tanner Thexton and junior Nick Demes protecting their passer all year long.
