Postgame Press Conference Quotes (Nov. 13, 2010 - Harvard)

Junior Linebacker Erik Rask
On Rask's blocked field goal:
"I actually just got put on that field goal block team this week. But just this week in practice, we've been going over that. Fortunately enough the guys up front got a really good push and I was able to time it up and get a hand on it. I got the block and that was that."

Penn's defense developing from last year:
"Ithink we all really buy into what the coaches say. We believe in the calls they make. It's really the trust factor. We don't really have one star player on the defense. Each week, we've had someone come up big and we've made the plays we've needed to make. We never really quit. Even though everyone thought the defense wouldn't be the same, we took that upon ourselves to prove everybody we're still one of the top teams in the league and I think we've done that so far."

Sophomore Running Back Brandon Colavita
On Penn's run game:
"Our idea going into every game pretty much is to pound the ball, running it and to work down field. Our offensive line, I think they're the best in the league. I give credit to them for sticking with a very good defensive line, a very good defense. We wore them down as we went on and things opened up in the end."

On Penn's run game eventually breaking Harvard's defense:
"It's more of a feeling. As the game goes on, you feel yourself breaking more and more runs and you know that the defense is getting tired."

On Colavita's surprising success this season:
"I was pretty surprised that I was given a bigger roll this year. I came into the season looking to be the short yardage guy. A couple of opportunities put me over the top."

Head Coach Al Bagnoli
On winning the title after captain Owen Thomas' passing in April:
"You know, a lot of it was gonna be determined by how well we were gonna handle all the adversity and how we were gonna react to a tremendous loss in Owen [Thomas]. I think you can react in a couple of different ways, you can play the best football you're capable of playing in honor of him or you can kind of dwell on it for too long and maybe, you know, stumble. To our kids' credit, I thought they did a really good job of honoring Owen, devoting the season to Owen and really he was front and center on everything that we were trying to do.In many ways it served as a motivation, which I felt was the way I wanted it handled and fortunately for us it was the way it ultimately did get handled."

On senior kickerAndrew Samson going two-for-two including a 45-yarder:
"He's had a tremendous career. He's been very consistent and has come up big in critical situations and today was another example. He's really hitting the ball well and when you can score points from 40-plus yards out, I think that certainly helps you, it keeps the momentum going continually applying pressure to the other team. I just think that's huge.He came up big and we capitalized on some short field and we were able to convert on some things. I think once we got up, at that point we were just trying to burn the clock down and give up a little bit of yardage but not try to give up any big plays."

On clinching the share of the Ivy Title this season:
"Obviously, given all the adversity they have had to overcome, it's gotta be one of the most satisfying things that we've done. There's still a week left hopefully we can close it out. We'd like to be greedy and win it outright and I think it's really, really hard and speaks volumes of your team's character, work-ethic, and focus if you can go back-to-back and unbeaten, it doesn't happen. It's happened to us back in 1993-94 and it's happened to us in 2002-03. It's got a chance to happen now, but it doesn't happen to very many people. You're not only winning it back-to-back, which is hard enough, now you're trying to back-to-back and trying to be unbeaten in it and that's very difficult to do - so kudos to our kids and the way they prepare and how hard they work and everything else that they do. It's a great reflection on them."
