San Diego - The University of Pennsylvania’s heavyweight crew team enjoyed a successful day on the waters of the Mission Bay as it posted a pair of top-three finishes on the first day of competition at the San Diego Crew Classic.
The Quakers’ varsity eight made a statement early taking third in their Copley Cup heat with a time of 6:10.70. Stanford rowed a time of 5:57.63 to capture the heat, while Cal placed second with a time of 6:00.01. All three crews advance to tomorrow afternoon’s final.
In the men’s junior varsity eight, Penn clocked a time of 6:12.77 to place, just two seconds of the pace of winner Northeastern who took the heat in 6:10.77. Both will advance to tomorrow’s final.
