LEHIGH SEASON OPENER RESULTS

BETHLEHEM, PA. – Five freshman entered the Penn record books during their first collegiate competition as the University of Pennsylvania track and field season got underway at the Lehigh Season Opener on Friday night in Bethlehem, Pa.

Freshmen Sean Clarke (pole vault), Breanne Bygrave (60m hurdles), Isis Trotman (weight throw), Maura Kimmel (shot put) and Zoe Early (pole vault) all recorded performances that placed them in the top-10 of the Penn indoor track and field record books in their respective disciplines. Additionally, junior Taylor McCorkle tied her school record in the 60 meters (7.50) as the Quakers put in a terrific effort at Friday's meet hosted by Lehigh University.

In all, the Red and Blue recorded 11 first place performances (five men, six women) and 35 podium finishes for their first outing of the 2016-17 season.

Trotman led the group of first-years with the No. 2 throw all-time in the women's weight throw with a toss of 16.67 meters. That performance was good for second place in the event while the Quakers also claimed first from sophomore Rachel Wilson's throw of 17.54 meters.

Following suit, Bygrave's 8.79 mark in the 60 meter hurdles was also impressive and good for the No. 3 performance of all-time in the event, and classmate Zoe Early jumped to a height of 3.65 meters in the women's pole vault for the 6th-best performance in school history. Kimmel also posted the No. 6 throw in Penn history with a mark of 13.67m.

On the men's side, Sean Clarke also performed well in the pole vault with a height of 4.98 meters, good for No. 8 all-time, as the Quakers swept the event alongside the second and third place finishes of Nathan Fisher and Luke Knouse.

In all, Penn claimed a 1-2-3 finish in the men's pole vault and shot put as well as the women's long jump and pole vault.

The meet, hosted at Rauch Fieldhouse, began with field events at 5:30 p.m. while running events got underway shortly thereafter at 6:30 p.m. Several local colleges joined Penn in competition, including Alvernia, East Stroudsburg, Eastern, Gwynedd Mercy, Moravian, Muhlenberg, Rowan, Temple and West Chester.

The Quakers will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 11 for the New Year Invitational hosted by Princeton University for their last meet prior to the start of the spring semester.
