FARMVILLE, Va. – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team used a solid, balanced attack to defeat Longwood on Sunday morning at the the Lancers' Athletics Complex, 5-2.

Alexa Hoover followed up her season-opening hat trick from Friday with another three-point performance, scoring twice and adding an assist. Elizabeth Hitti, Elise Tilton and Selena Garzio also scored for the Quakers.

It was Tilton who got things started on Sunday, scoring just eight minutes in when she re-directed a Hoover ball.

Longwood evened the score when Hollie MacDonald scored unassisted, but the freshman Garzio gave the Quakers a lead they wouldn't relinquish off a short corner. Claire Kneizys was credited with an assist on the play. Hitti made it 3-1 about 10 minutes into the second half, dribbling in and firing a shot low into the far post.

Longwood got one back less than four minutes later, MacDonald again scoring unassisted, but Hoover put it away with a pair of goals just 1:58 apart shortly after the Lancers' second tally.

Penn outshot Longwood in the game, 21-7, and forced Lauren Bernard to make four saves. At the other end, Liz Mata made two stops in the Quakers cage.

Penn plays twice in the city of Philadelphia next weekend. The Quakers host Saint Joseph's in their home opener Friday at 4 p.m., then travel to North Broad to face Temple on Sunday at 1 p.m.
