Strong Finish Pushes Field Hockey Past Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Pushing the pace offensively in a midweek non-conference road matchup, the University of Pennsylvania field hockey team took advantage of three second half goals to defeat Lafayette, 4-2, Wednesday evening.

Senior captain Emily Corcoran scored two goals for the Quakers in the game, including their first of the evening. Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Penn (3-3, 0-1 Ivy) took advantage of its offensive pressure in the second half, on goals from junior Elizabeth Hitti, Corcoran, and freshman Alexa Hoover. Hitti also tallied an assist on Hoover's goal.

The Quakers outshot Lafayette, 10-4, in the first half despite trailing 2-1. Penn would go on to decisively outshoot Lafayette (4-5) for the game, 21-6, while holding an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners. Five players recorded shots on goal for the Red and Blue – Corcoran, Hitti, Hoover, senior Alex Iqbal, and freshman Madison Hendry.

With the win, Penn snapped a six game losing streak against the Leopards dating back to 2007, and now hold an 18-17-6 advantage in the series.

Up next for the Quakers is a home Ivy League match against Harvard on Saturday at Ellen Vagelos Field. Last year, Penn defeated Harvard 1-0in Cambridge. Scheduled start time is 12 p.m., with the game available on the Ivy League Digital Network.
