Sprint Football Falls to Post, 28-21

PHILADELPHIA – Looking to mount a second half comeback once more this season, the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team fell, 28-21, to Post on Friday evening at Franklin Field.

Penn (3-2) pulled to within a touchdown of the Eagles (2-2) late in the fourth quarter, but were unable to complete a come from behind victory, turning the ball over with just under two minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

Henry Mason, Jack Epstein, and Andrew Sutton all caught touchdown passes from quarterback Mike McCurdy in the game. McCurdy finished 14-of-29 passes with the three touchdown passes and three interceptions.

Leading the defense for Penn was Rob Diorio with 12 tackles, followed by Stu Helgeson with 11 stops, and Chris Colavita with nine tackles.

The Quakers began the scoring with a minute left in the first quarter when McCurdy hooked up with junior receiver Jack Epstein on a 50-yard pass and catch. Post would score on the last play of the quarter when Jay'Len Mahan took a Greg Volpe pass 81 yards for the score, making it 7-7.

Penn senior running back Mike Beamish left the game late in the first quarter after a hit that Post's Trevor Patterson was ejected for.

Post would score the next two touchdowns, a rushing touchdown from Joseph Lynch, and another receiving touchdown from Mahan in the second quarter.

In the third quarter Penn saw junior receiver Henry Mason haul in a nice touchdown reception capping off a nine play 71-yard drive.

Moments into the fourth quarter Post would add what would be prove to be the winning score on Lynch's one yard touchdown run. The Quakers pulled to within seven on freshman Andrew Sutton's touchdown reception with 2:59 remaining, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Penn continues the season hosting Army next Friday, Oct. 24, at Franklin Field. Kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
