Field Hockey Defeated by No. 2 Maryland on Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Playing its second non-conference game this week, the University of Pennsylvania fell to No. 2 Maryland, 9-0, Sunday afternoon.

Penn (4-6, 1-2 Ivy) recorded 10 shots – five on goal – led by freshman Alexa Hoover who put three shots on goal. Sophomore Claire Kneizys and freshman Gina Guccione also recorded shots on goal for the Quakers.

Maryland (11-2) had eight different players record a goal in the game, with junior Sarah Sprink collecting two. Junior Anna Dessoyepicked up an assist onfour of the Terrapin goals.

Penn senior goalkeeper Allison Weisenfels totaled 10 saves on the afternoon.

Up next for the Quakers is an Ivy League matchup against Columbia at Ellen Vagelos Field on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. Penn will then play against non-conference opponent Longwood on Sunday at 12 p.m. also at home.
