Women's Tennis Continues Ivy Play with Two on the Road this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania's women's tennis team will travel to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Quakers will then make their way to New Haven, Conn. for a noon start against Yale on Saturday.

Penn (4-9) began Ivy League play last Saturday against then No. 32 ranked Princeton. The match did not fare well for the Quakers as they were swept 7-0 by the Tigers. On the bright side, the doubles matches were much closer than what their scores may indicate, including junior Alexa Ely's and senior Jacqueline Wong's hard fought 8-4 loss in the No. 1 spot. Likewise at the No. 2 position, the duo of sophomore Emily Wolf and freshmen Jules Rodin also lost by an 8-4 score.

Brown holds a 12-4 overall record and is currently ranked No. 66 nationally. Coming off a 7-0 loss to No. 9 Miami, Friday's contest will be the Bears' first actual Ivy League dual match of the season. A year ago, Brown defeated Penn 5-2.

No. 40 ranked Yale enters the weekend with an 11-4 record. Earlier this season, the Bulldogs captured the ECAC Division I Women's Indoor Tennis Championship for the second year in a row, defeating Boston University, Harvard, and Dartmouth in the process. Last season, Penn lost to Yale 6-1.
