NEW YORK - Penn did their part to stay in the race for the Ivy League title on Saturday, defeating Columbia, 7-0, in the Big Apple, but missed out on the Ivy title after Yale defeated Dartmouth, 4-3, on Sunday. With the win, Penn is now 6-1 in Ivy matches and finished in second place in the Ivy League.
The Quakers won the doubles point with a 2-1 win. Julia Koulbitskaya and Yulia Rivelis cruised past Nina Suda and Linnae Gosswami with an 8-1 win. Despite dropping the match at number two, Penn secured the point when Charlotte Tansill and Michelle Mitchell defeated Carling Donovan and Natalia Christenson, 8-4.
Penn swept through the singles matches, dropping only two sets in the six matches. Rivelis rallied after losing the first set to Suda to win at number one singles, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Maria Anisimova played at number two and defeated Stephanie Zilberman in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Tansill slotted in at the third spot and defeated Donovan, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10) to end her Penn career with a win. On the day, all four Penn seniors won their matches ? Mitchell, Rivelis and Tansill each went 2-0 and Koulbitskaya won her doubles match.
Mitchell needed only two sets to defeat Lauren Shearer, 6-2, 6-4.
Lauren Sadaka defeated Christenson, 6-2, 6-2 for a win at number five.
Vidya Dabir played her first match of the spring at number six and defeated Gosswami, 6-0, 6-3.
