PHILADELPHIA - Penn defeated Cornell, 5-2, on the Lott Courts on Friday to up its Ivy record to 5-1 and keep the Quakers in contention for the Ivy League title. The Red and Blue won two of the three doubles matches to start the day off on the right foot before winning four singles matches to clinch the match.

On senior day, two of Penn's tri-captains teamed together for the first doubles win of the day. Julia Koulbitskaya and Yulia Rivelis were paired together for the first time this spring and defeated Elizabeth Googe and Tamara John, 8-5.

The other two seniors who were competing in their final home match for the Red and Blue competed as a doubles team as well, but Charlotte Tansill and Michelle Mitchell were unable to pull out the win, falling to Sinziana Chis and Ruxandra Dumitrescu, 8-6, at number three doubles.

Maria Anisimova and Lauren Sadaka teamed up at number two and clinched the point for Penn, defeating Dana Cruite and Shayna Miller, 9-8(3).

In singles, Rivelis made quick work of Chis at the top position, defeating her in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

Other wins for Penn came from Tansill, Mitchell and Sadaka. Playing at number four, Tansill defeated Cruite, 6-2, 6-1. Mitchell, the third of the team's tri-captains, won at number five, 7-5, 6-2, over Dumitrescu. Sadaka was in the sixth spot, and defeated Melissa Orteza in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(7).

The Quakers will travel to the Big Apple on Saturday to play Columbia at noon. A win over the Lions keeps the Quakers in the title hunt. Penn needs Yale to lose one match this weekend to tie for the crown, and two Bulldog losses coupled with a Penn victory over Columbia would give the Red and Blue the title outright.
