Women's Basketball Knocks Off Dartmouth, 56-53, on Senior Night

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's basketball team handed Dartmouth its second loss of the weekend, topping the Big Green, 56-53, at The Palestra on senior night. The Quakers held Dartmouth scoreless for nearly six minutes late in the second half to seal the victory. Penn improved to 10-14 on the season and 5-6 in the Ivy League. Dartmouth fell to 13-12 and 7-4 in Ancient Eight action.

The win was the first time since 2004--the year the Red and Blue went on to win the Ivy League title.

Penn held a three-point lead at the half after leading the majority of the way and by as many as seven. Monica Naltner scored 10 of her team-leading 12 points in the first help the Quakers stay on top of the Big Green.

In the second, Dartmouth flew out of the locker rooms and grabbed a nine-point advantage with 6:19 left to play. Penn's defense kicked into high gear with a steal by Lauren Pears (who also scored 10 points in the game) and five forced Dartmouth turnovers. Sophomore Carrie Biemer came off the bench scoring nine points in the final 4:23 to pull Penn ahead.

With Penn ahead by two, Dartmouth's leading scorer, Ashley Taylor went to the line, shooting two. The senior made the first, but the second attempt bounced out preserving a one-point Quaker lead.

Penn's Senior Ashley Gray was fouled with four seconds left and sunk both of her shots to seal the win.

The Quakers head to Yale and Brown, March 3-4. Both games are set to tip-off at 7 p.m.
