HANOVER, N.H. ? The No. 16 Penn women's lacrosse team couldn't stop two key Dartmouth runs as they fell to the No. 15 Big Green, 8-4, at Scully-Fahey Field Saturday.

The Quakers (8-5, 3-2 Ivy) suffered their second Ivy League loss of the season, while Dartmouth (7-4, 3-2 Ivy) moved into a tie with Penn for third place in the League.

The first half of the game was a defensive battle, with just five goals between two teams. Kristen Barry opened the scoring for the Big Green at 26:15. After a 10-minute lull in scoring, Dartmouth made it 2-0 on Whitney Douthett's unassisted goal. Sarah Scefi tacked on a third with 14:10 to go.

After a driving rain began, Rachel Manson broke the run up with her 20th of the season at 10:44. Kristen Zimmer, however, reestablished Dartmouth's three-goal lead with her free position goal just over a minute later.

The rain stopped and the sun came out to begin the second half, but it took nearly nine minutes before anyone would score. Becca Edwards fired home a point-blank shot off Emily Cochran's feed at 21:23 and make it 4-2 Dartmouth. But just as the Quakers pulled back within two, the defending Ivy Champions regained the three-goal lead with a free position goal from Casey Hazel.

Edwards quickly responded with another point-blank goal at 19:36, with Allison Ambrozy assisting. After Lauren McDermott threw a clearance out of bounds, Dartmouth's Lizzy Cuneo did the same seconds later to give Penn a chance in their own offensive third. Manson took immediate advantage, dumping into the arc to Chrissy Muller, who scored at 15:08 to make it 5-4.

The Big Green would once again put on a goal blitz, with Annie Leibovitz making it 6-4 in favor of Dartmouth with her goal with 12:43 remaining and Douthett notching her second 50 seconds later. Douthett completed her hat trick with a goal at 9:28 to make it 8-4.

Karrie Moore (42:43, 6 GA, 6 S) took the loss in goal, taking her record to 6-2. Sarah Waxman (17:17, 2 GA, 1 S) played the first part of the second half. Devon Wills went the distance for Dartmouth, making six saves. Lauren McDermott had a solid defensive day for Penn, grabbing two ground balls and causing three turnovers.

The Big Green held a slim 18-17 advantage in shots, while Penn had eight draw controls to Dartmouth's 6.

The Quakers now face a critical Ivy League game at Ancient Eight leader Princeton Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
