Women's Basketball Travels for Last Game of 2006

Penn (4-5) heads out on the road for a final game in the 2006 calendar year facing off against the Loylola Greyhounds at Reitz Arena in Baltimore, Md. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

This is the fifth meeting for Penn and Loyola, but the first time since the 1996-97 season. The Greyhounds lead the all-time series 3-1 though Penn won the most recent outing 62-54 on Jan. 23, 1997.The teams first met on Jan. 20, 1995.

The Quakers are undefeated on the road, winning against Lehigh, Rider and Lafayette this season. Penn is 10-11 all-time against teams currently in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association, including a 77-65 win over Rider earlier this season. The Quakers will face one more MAAC opponent this season?Manhattan on Jan. 16 Penn has played three games on Dec. 31, but lost all three.

The Red and Blue is 202-197 at The Palestra since the 1974-75 season. The 200th win was recorded on Feb. 17, 2006 against Ivy League foe Columbia (a 64-49 decision). Monica Naltner scored 37 points against Lafayette. The mark tied for sixth on Penn's all-time most points in a game list. She leads the team in boards with 62 and points with 183. Penn scored 78 points against Lafayette, Dec. 9. It was the most points scored in Knapp's tenure with the Quakers. His teams produced more than 70 in six other games. Penn is 5-2 when scoring 70 or more points under Knapp. The Quakers defeated Lehigh by one point on Nov. 16. The Red and Blue have played in four one-point games under Knapp. Penn is 2-2 in those games. With 964 career points, senior tri-captain Joey Rhoads is paced to be the 17th Quaker to eclipse 1,000 points. She has 159 points this season and needs just 36 more to reach the milestone. She is currently averaging 17.7 ppg. Lauren Pears missed the majority of the 2005?06 season with a knee injury, but started all eight games and ranked among the team leaders in every statistical category prior to her injury. She is back on track as the team leader in assists (34) and third in in rebounds (36) and points (55). Monica Naltner was named the Ivy League Player the of Week, Nov. 20. It was her first such honor.She earned co-player of the week honors from the Ivy League and outright honors from the Big 5 on Dec. 11.

Scouting Loyola...

Senior Jill Glessner continues to lead Loyola in scored with 15 points a game. She also leads is tied for the lead in assists with 2.6 a game and is now second in rebounds with 6.3 a game. Classmate Brittany Dunn follows with 10 points a game and is tied with Glessner for the steals lead at 2.6. Dunn also leads in steals with 1.7 a game. Junior Meghan Wood is third in scoring at 9.8 points a game and leads in rebounds with seven a game. Classmate Vika Sholokhova rounds out the top scorers with nine points a game after her debut performance. She is third in rebounds with six a game. Loyola was trounced by national champion Maryland, 110-55 on Dec. 21. The Greyhounds shot 40% from the field for the game but were outshot by Maryland's 61.2% effort. The Terrapins were a force inside, out-rebounding Loyola 41-25. The Greyhounds and Quakers have already faced three common opponents this season. Below are their opponents and how each team fared.
