Box Score

Villanova, Pa. - The University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team openedits 2004 campaign with a tough 3-1 loss at Villanova this afternoon.

"It was a challenging first game and we knew coming in that Villanova was very strong," Head Coach Rudy Fuller said. "Today's game certainly identified a couple things that we need to work on before heading to Milwaukee this weekend."

Trailing 2-0 in the second half, the Quakers (0-1-0) got on the board at the 61:32 mark. After being dragged down in the box, junior Erik Violante sent home the awarded penalty kick past a diving Craig Bald to cut the deficit in half. Despite Penn pressure, the Wildcats (1-0-1) added an insurance goal by Mike DelGuerico at 86:08 to secure the win.

The Quakers are back in action this weekend, Sept. 11 and Sept. 12, as they travel to Milwaukee for the Coca-Cola Panther Invitational. Penn faces Wisconsin at noon on Saturday followed by a meeting with host Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
