Philadelphia ? The University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team defeated Drexel, 54-50, in The Palestra on Thursday afternoon. Joey Rhoads led all players with 16 points as she and Karen Habrukowich both finished the game in double figures for the Quakers.

Penn (4-6) opened the game by taking a 11-5 lead at the 13:54 mark of the first half on a Rhoads layup. Rhoads scored eight points in the first half, all in the next four minutes. The Quakers took a 25-19 lead into the break. Penn out-rebounded Drexel (4-3) 18-9 in the first half, including scoring six second-chance points to the Dragons zero.

Drexel opened the second half by outscoring the Quakers, 9-5, in the first seven minutes, but Penn held the Dragons scoreless for the next four minutes to open up a ten point lead. Jennifer Fleischer led Penn on the boards with seven rebounds while Habrukowich pulled down five to go along with her 13 points.

Penn outscored the Dragons off the bench, 18-6. Drexel was led by Kira Karlstrom with 14 points and Catherine Scanlon and Katrina Martin each also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Quakers are next in action when they travel to Rider on Jan. 3. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
