Brandon Shald

Brandon Shald begins his third season as an assistant coach with Penn's heavyweight rowing program in 2017-18.

Shald, who rowed for Penn head coach Geoff Bond as a collegian at California, joined his college coach at Penn after serving as an assistant coach with the Princeton heavyweights during the 2014-15 season. The Tigers won five Cup races that spring and were third at both Sprints and IRAs with Shald on the coaching staff. During the 2013-14 season, Shald was an assistant with Princeton's lightweight program, winning two Cup races while posting a third-place finish at Sprints and fifth place at IRAs.

In addition to his duties with Princeton's varsity programs, Shald was head coach at the Carnegie Lake Rowing Association from the spring of 2014 through the fall of 2015.

A 2010 graduate of Cal, Shald was a national champion for the Bears in 2007 with the Novice Eight under Bond's guidance. Shald went on to post finishes of third (2008) and second (2009) while rowing for Cal's Varsity Eight.

Upon graduation, Shald spent time training with the USRowing National Team, winning a silver medal in the eight at the 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup in Sydney.
