Megan Hinz was hired as an assistant coach for the Penn Women’s Soccer team in March of 2022.
With Hinz's help during her first season on the coaching staff, the Quakers set a new single-season program record for draws with seven, adding three victories. Three players—Sizzy Lawton (second team), Ginger Fontenot (second) and Laurence Gladu (honorable mention)—earned All-Ivy honors. In addition, Fontenot was also Penn's Academic All-Ivy representative.
Hinz comes to Penn after spending the past four years as a professional goalkeeper in the NWSL. Her professional career began in Sweden for the Gustafs Goif (2018) and she moved back to the states in March of 2019 to play for the Chicago RedStars (2019), and last played for Gotham NY/NJ FC (2019-21).
Prior to starting her professional career, Hinz served as an assistant coach at DePaul University in Chicago. During the 2018 season, Hinz helped a team improved from seven wins the previous season to eight in 2018. The Blue Demons advanced to its first Big East Tournament in her season at DePaul as the team posted its fourth best goals against average (0.83) in program history.
Hinz was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten (2015-17) honoree and was a two-time U-M Athletic Academic Achievement (2015-16) honoree. After her third week of collegiate soccer, she was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 15, 2014). She finished her career ranked inside Michigan's all-time top 10 in four career categories -- fourth in goals-against average (0.97), sixth in wins (25), seventh in shutouts (11.4), and ninth in saves (125). Following the 2019 season, she is still fourth in GAA, sixth in wins, and seventh in shutouts.
A native of Eldersburg, Md., Hinz earned her bachelor's degree in Health and Fitness Leadership in 2017 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. At the end of 2022, she is expected to complete her master's degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland.
