Fred King

King was hired as the associate women's soccer head coach by Dr. Turner in July of 2022.

Under King's guidance during his first season on the coaching staff, the Quakers set a new single-season program record for draws with seven, adding three victories. Three players—Sizzy Lawton (second team), Ginger Fontenot (second) and Laurence Gladu (honorable mention)—earned All-Ivy honors. In addition, Fontenot was also Penn's Academic All-Ivy representative.

King arrived in University City following a ten-year stint at Saint Joseph’s University. He arrived on Hawk Hill in August of 2012 as an assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach in January of 2019. King helped the Hawks soar to new heights during his tenure, earning eight Atlantic 10 Championship berths and the 2016 A-10 regular-season title. King was also instrumental in player development as he saw 21 of his Hawks garner A-10 all-conference honors and seven named to all-region squads.

In addition to Saint Joseph’s, King’s collegiate coaching experience includes stops at Rutgers, and with the men’s teams at Tufts and Harvard.

Prior to making the move to Hawk Hill, King spent two seasons at Rutgers. Serving as Director of Soccer Operations, he helped the Scarlet Knights post an 18-17-4 record over that period, including a #17 ranking in the NSCAA National Poll in 2010 (now recognized as the United Soccer Coaches).

Outside of the collegiate ranks, King has served as a State Development Coach for the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (2008-10) and served as the head coach of the U-15 Olympic Development Program team. He has also spent time in the early 2000s coaching the F.C. Greater Boston Bolts, where he began his professional coaching career.

A 2002 graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London, King was a three-year letter winner and served as team captain of the First XI soccer team. While playing for the University of London Representative team, he also competed with Dulwich Hamlet Football Club.

King and his family currently reside in Moorestown, New Jersey.
