E.J. joined Penn Athletics as the Director of Communications in August of 2026. In this position, he serves as the primary contact for volleyball, men's basketball, men's lacrosse, women's golf and the Penn Relays in addition to overseeing the communications department.
He arrived in University City after working for five years at his Alma mater, the University of Minnesota. At the 'U', he worked primarily with the Gophers volleyball, baseball and women's gymnastics teams while also serving as a play-by-play voice on B1G+ for Gopher Men's Basketball. He helped to promote over 20 All-Americans and 50 All-Big Ten honorees during his time in Dinkytown.
Stevens served as the contact for five volleyball NCAA Tournament runs, including two Sweet 16's and an Elite Eight. He helped Gopher volleyball players earn six AVCA All-America nods, including two First Team All-America honors. Three of those student-athletes earned AVCA Region Player of the Year accolades while two won Big Ten Player of the Year. He also promoted Keegan Cook to be the AVCA Region Coach of the Year in 2025. 20 times in his five year run did Minnesota players earn All-Big Ten honors.
The women's gymnastics team made a historic run in the spring of 2026, achieving the best season in school history and making Four on the Floor. He helped promote the team for multiple awards, including the Big Ten Coaching Staff of the Year, WCGA Coaching Staff of the Year, Big Ten Freshman of the Year, two WCGA All-Americans and six NCAA Championships All-Americans.
With Minnesota baseball, Stevens promoted 11 MLB Draft picks, including two that have gone on to make it to the big leagues (Brett Bateman, OF, Cubs; George Klassen, RHP, Angels). He also promoted numerous All-Big Ten honorees and a Big Ten All-Freshman team honoree.
Prior to his time at Minnesota, he spent two years working as an Assistant Director of Communications and Digital Media at Marquette University. Here, he worked with the men's soccer, women's basketball, women's lacrosse and cross country and track and field teams. The men's soccer and women's lacrosse teams both ranked in the SkullSparks top-25 for most engaged social accounts during his time in Milwaukee.
He served as the contact for the greatest season in Marquette men's soccer's history in the spring of 2021 where they made a run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Six Golden Eagles made All-BIG EAST teams during his two seasons there, with Beto Soto being named the 2021 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. He also led the promo of striker Lukas Sunesson to be a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American. Sunesson was the first Golden Eagle in program history to earn United Soccer Coaches All-America honors. The Hermann Trophy Semifinalist was also named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-East Region and the All-BIG EAST First Team.
With the women's basketball team, the Golden Eagles finished as the BIG EAST runners-up and made the NCAA Tournament. He promoted the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in Selena Lott and three All-BIG EAST selections.
The MU women's lacrosse team had a program record six All-BIG EAST selections in 2021 during Stevens' time with the program. Junior Lydia Foust was a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree while five others made the second team. MU netted a massive road win over Georgetown in 2021, their first win over the Hoyas away from home in many years.
Before Marquette, E.J. worked as a graduate assistant in the University of Nebraska Athletic Department where he served as the primary communications contact for NU wrestling, women's tennis and men's golf in addition to other responsibilities. He promoted multiple All-Americans for Nebraska wrestling and covered 157-pounder Tyler Berger's run to the 2019 national championship match. He also served as the media liaison for the 2019 Big Ten Women's Tennis Championships hosted in Lincoln, Neb.
E.J. began his career working as a student in the University of Minnesota Athletic Department. He spent four years working for Gopher Digital Productions, serving as the lead play-by-play commentator for B1G+, calling Minnesota volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball games. Stevens also spent time with Gopher Sports Marketing.
He resides in Philadelphia, Pa.
