Kelsey Dominik

Kelsey Dominik was hired in August 2018 and just finished her first season as an assistant coach with the University of Pennsylvania softball team in 2019.

Dominik came to Penn from La Salle, where she was a graduate assistant coach for two years. In her first season, the Explorers saw improvement at both the plate and in the circle on their way to the program's first 20-win season since 2008.

“We feel very fortunate to welcome Kelsey to our staff,” said Penn head coach Leslie King at the time of Dominik’s hiring. “She comes with a very good playing pedigree and has experience coaching at the DI level at La Salle. As an athlete, she competed at the highest level playing third-base and pitcher as well as hitting at both Temple and Coastal Carolina. Most importantly, she is a person with a strong character and work ethic.”

A South Jersey native, Dominik was a two-year starter at Temple University, earning Atlantic-10 All-Rookie Team honors after setting the program’s freshman record with 14 home runs and recording a 15-8 record in the circle. That season, she became just the seventh player in NCAA Division I history to hit home runs in five consecutive games.

After Temple cut its softball program in 2014, Dominik transferred to Coastal Carolina where she excelled in the Big South. She was named honorable mention All-Big South as a pitcher as she recorded a conference-leading six shutouts while ranking second in ERA, third in opponent batting average, and tied for fifth in wins.

As a senior, Dominik was selected as the Big South’s first-team utility player. She tied for second with 19 wins in the circle and was just as good at the plate, hitting .290. Her 16 home runs and 52 RBI tied for second in the conference.

After her collegiate career, Dominik was selected with the 12th overall pick by the Future 1s in the inaugural American Softball Association (ASBA) Draft, becoming the third player in Coastal Carolina history to be drafted to play professional softball.

Dominik got her Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Coastal Carolina University and went on to pursue her Masters of Business in Nonprofit Leadership from La Salle.
