Stephen Brindle is Penn’s Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach and in his ninth year with the Quakers in 2018-19. He is also and the Speed and Agility Coordinator for all of Penn’s varsity sports. Stephen directly works with men’s and women’s basketball, men’s soccer, field hockey, men’s swimming, and track and field, and during his tenure with Penn he has had coaching responsibilities with more than 16 different teams. Brindle’s detailed programming and coaching has helped 13 Penn teams achieve Ivy League championships. This includes four football championships, two of them coming while he served as head football strength and conditioning coach (2015, 2016); four women’s basketball titles (2014, 2016, 2017, 2019); three women’s track and field championships (2018, 2019); men’s lacrosse Ivy Tournament champions (2014); Sprint Football (2010); and helping Penn Men’s Basketball win its first Ivy title since 2007 (2018).
During the course of his career, Stephen also has helped develop and condition numerous NFL and NBA athletes as well as NCAA All-Americans. During the 2018 season, he completed a strength and conditioning internship with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles; helping to bring their cutting-edge training practices to Penn’s campus.
A 2005 graduate of the University of Delaware; Brindle earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Health and Exercise Sciences with a minor in Strength and Conditioning. While finishing up his degree at the University of Delaware, Brindle interned with the University of Hawaii and Velocity Sports Performance, where he gained extensive knowledge on speed and agility training techniques. Brindle returned to school to earn a Master's Degree in Kinesiology from Temple University in 2009. While at Temple (2007-09) he served as a Graduate Extern Strength Coach working with football, men's and women's basketball, men's crew, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's track.
Prior to arriving at Penn, Brindle served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Pittsburgh in 2009-10 where he worked primarily with men's and women's swimming and track and field, and assisted with men's basketball and football. Brindle currently competes in the sport of powerflifting, earning several first-place awards as well as a top 10 national ranking.
Brindle is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a United States Weightlifting Performance Coach (USAW), a United States Track and Field Level 1 Coach (USATF) and a Strength and Conditioning Certified Coach (SCCC) where he serves as a CSCCa mentor.
