Gretta Ehret

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Coach
The University of Pennsylvania field hockey program and head coach Colleen Fink have announced an addition to the coaching staff for the 2021 season, bringing back 2009 graduate and All-Ivy performer Gretta Ehret as a volunteer assistant coach.

"Gretta has been an active and engaged Penn Field Hockey alumnae and has coached at almost every Penn camp and clinic on Ellen Vagelos Field," said Fink. "She has endless energy, is incredibly passionate and is extremely effective in her communication of the game. Gretta is family and we are thrilled to welcome her home!"

Ehret had a decorated career with the Quakers, including being named a two-time All-Ivy honoree in 2007 and 2008. She was a co-captain her senior season in 2008.

"I am absolutely thrilled to join the coaching staff and team at Penn for the 2021 season," said Ehret. "My experience as a student-athlete at Penn taught me invaluable lessons and made me the person I am today. I have the fondest memories of my time with my teammates and have met so many dynamic, inspiring women through this program who have become lifelong friends."

Ehret played her high school days at The William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, where she was most recently inducted into their Athletic Honor Society in 2019.

In 2015, she took over the helm at Merion Mercy Academy where she remained through 2020. Over that stretch of time, she led the team to three district championship appearances, two district championships, a league championship, and a state final.

Beyond her time with Merion Mercy, she is also a head coach and Director of Operations for Main Line Mayhem and runs her company FIT Hockey Academy where she focuses on strength, agility, and conditioning within the context of the sport.

"I maintained my involvement with the team through coaching at camps and clinics since graduation and it brings me great pride to see the direction the program is going under the leadership of Colleen and Katelyn," Ehret continued. "I am not only excited to be a part of the joy and energy that comes from this fierce, competitive group of females, but also to have a role in shaping the players into strong, passionate, kind people on and off the field. I am looking forward to getting out there and learning and growing as a coach and watching these girls compete for an Ivy League title."
