Student-Athlete Affinity Groups

The CSAS staff in collaboration with colleagues in various roles across the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics (DRIA) support several student-run affinity groups. Each affinity group is registered as an official Penn Clubreceives financial support from DRIA, and is advised by a full-time staff member within the department. Group's leaders (and members) have the opportunities to build their skills and capacities in the areas of leadership development and community engagement. These groups engage in community building, advocacy work, and plan various programs and events for the student-athlete community. Participation in these groups is a great way for student-athletes to develop community among their athlete peers and to engage in service and social activities.

All DRIA affinity groups are open to all Penn student-athletes, with specific interest as follows:

Current affinity groups include:

Asian Pacific Indigenous Athlete Coalition (APIAC):
A community for those interested in issues relating to AAPI identifying student-athletes at Penn

Athlete Ally:
a nonprofit LGBTQ athletic advocacy group focusing on making athletic communities more inclusive and less discriminatory and helping athletes to advocate for LGBTQ equality. Penn's Athlete Ally group is a chapter of a national organization.

Black Student-Athletes at Penn (BSAP): an organization with a focus on the role of Black student-athletes and related social change within Penn Athletics, the Ivy League, and our Philadelphia community at large.

International Student-Athlete Association (ISAA): The purpose of this group is to connect international student athletes with one another as well as colleagues interested in global issues and to create a supporting and fun community. The transition to America and Penn can be challenging, and having a welcoming group of people to help you and hang out with would be incredibly valuable.

Student-Athlete Wellness Ambassadors (SAWA):  a student run athletics group that supports the mental and physical health of Penn student athletes through sharing knowledge of Penn resources. We host speakers, workshops, and stress-relieving events to help our student athletes thrive!

Women's Athletic Association (WAA): a club for individuals interested in empowerment and celebration of female athletes at the University of Pennsylvania.
