OUTDOOR SPACES

Our outdoor spaces offer the opportunity for groups to enjoy one of the top facilities in the city. We can accommodate a variety of sports and events of all different sizes.

Penn Park contains most of our outdoor spaces and offers the best views of the Philadelphia skyline. Outside of Penn Park, we have the notorious Franklin Field as well as Shoemaker Green, Ellen Vagelos C’90 Field Hockey Field, and Meiklejohn Stadium.

These spaces include light posts for night activity, restrooms onsite, handicap accessibility throughout the fields, security 24/7, and access to Penn Park parking lot.

Franklin Field

Franklin Field is the oldest two-tier stadium in the country and was once home to the Philadelphia Eagles. The 278,000 square foot structure provides a professional stadium feel in historic surroundings at a reasonable price. Franklin Field has the capability to host lacrosse tournaments, track and field meets, and football games as well as large events such as concerts, speaking engagements, corporate receptions, graduations, camps/clinics, field days, parties, and so much more.

  • Capacity: Seating for 40,000 fans, including chair backs
  • Includes: Concession stands, locker rooms, electronic scoreboard and videoboard, ticket sale window, spectator entrances on all sides of the stadium, and great privacy.
  • Inlaid Lines for: Football, men’s and women’s lacrosse
  • Optional Request: Football field goals, lacrosse goals, track and field high jump, pole vault, sand pits, hurdles, and more

Dunning Cohen Championship Field

Dunning Cohen Championship Field is a 380-foot by 245-foot oversized synthetic turf facility that can accommodate football, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey. This field is also used for field days, camps/clinics, concerts, and carnivals.
  • Location: Penn Park- 3000 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104
  • Includes: Moveable metal benches, light posts for night activity, inlaid lines for football, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey
  • Optional Request: Large and small soccer goals, field hockey cages, lacrosse goals, and rugby goal posts
  • Spaces Nearby: Picnic Grove, Adams, MPS

Ace Adams Field

Ace Adams Field is a 370-foot by 250-foot synthetic turf facility designed to accommodate soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey. Like DCC, it can host many other activities, such as field days, camps/clinics, photoshoots and more.

Picnic Grove

The picnic grove is one of the more popular spaces to request for outdoor special events. With the city skyline, large open grass field, and shaded areas provided by the many trees, the Picnic Grove is an amazing space to pick for your event. Picnic Grove is used frequently for private parties, picnics, concerts, food truck events, movie nights, speaking engagements, team building events, engagement parties, field days, and other celebrations.

  • Includes: 10 picnic tables and 20 AMPS of electricity
  • Optional Request: Tables, chairs, and entertainment equipment

MPS

The Multi-Purpose Stadium is the home to the Penn’s varsity softball team and features a synthetic outfield and hilltopper allowing for the most ideal playing or entertaining surface. This field has spectacular views of the Philadelphia skyline making it a perfect location for photoshoots, corporate outings, softball and kickball games, concerts, and speaking engagements.
  • Location: Penn Park- 3000 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104
  • Capacity: 450 in the chair back seats, 300 around the fencing of the field
  • Includes: Two dugouts, light posts for night activity, and a sound system
  • Optional Request: Bases, bats, and balls

Shoemaker Green

Shoemaker Green is an open space located on 33rd Street, bordered by the iconic Palestra and Franklin Field, that connects the central campus to the University's Penn Park on the eastern side. As a 2.75-acre field, the open lawn area is designed to accommodate both large and small groups for special events, such as picnics, field days, orientation, graduations receptions, tailgates, celebrations, and concerts.

South Green

South Green is an informal, natural grass playing field located between the Hamlin Tennis Center (outdoor courts) and the Penn Park Orchard. This space is a blank canvas which is perfect for those who are looking for a large space to host all different events such as carnivals, concerts, end-of-year celebrations, orientations, graduation receptions, food truck events, picnics, field days, and so much more.

Meiklejohn Stadium

The Meiklejohn Stadium is the southernmost athletic space located in River Fields. This space was recently renovated in 2023, including a new turf field. This venue hosts Penn's varsity baseball team, but also is a perfect space for private baseball practices, corporate events, teambuilding, and photo/video shoots.

  • Capacity: 850 in the chairbacks
  • Included: Chairback seated stadium, press box access, stadium lights for night events, batting cages and bullpens

Ellen Vagelos C’90 Field Hockey Field

Ellen Vagelos C'90 Field is the home to Penn’s varsity field hockey team. Opened in 2013, this Astro Turf venue features a watering system that makes the field ideal for field hockey and two expanded dugouts to serve as the bench areas for the home and visiting squads. An additional mezzanine sits between the benches, providing space for statisticians, scoreboard and videoboard operators, game announcers, officials, and a broadcast crew. Opposite the team benches is elevated spectator seating. This space can be used for field hockey, soccer, cricket, and other sports!

  • Capacity: 500 in the benches
  • Includes: Field hockey goals, rotating scoreboard, dug out, benches for home and visiting teams, and ability to use the water system

Hamlin Tennis Courts

The Hamlin Tennis Center has 12 all-weather courts in a beautiful park setting with views of the Philadelphia skyline. The facility has stadium seating and a large walkway for spectators to watch with a closer look. In addition to tennis, the courts can be converted to host pickleball tournaments upon request. This space can be used for large sport tournaments, private tennis and pickleball matches, or camps/clinics.
