LARGE INDOOR SPACES
Penn Athletics offers numerous unique indoor spaces that can accommodate a variety of sports and host large events. No matter what type of activity you are planning, one of our spaces will be a perfect venue.
These spaces include exceptional amenities, such as A/V, chairs, tables, inlaid lines, and scoreboards. Explore the page to learn more about what each space has to offer.
The west side of UPenn’s campus is comprised of most of our larger indoor spaces with a few exceptions, like the Burk-Bergman Boathouse and some facilities in the Pottruck Fitness Center.
Burk-Bergman Boathouse
The University of Pennsylvania Boathouse is a newly renovated space located on the iconic Boathouse Row. This space overlooks the Schuylkill River and city skyline. The Penn Boathouse is a beautiful venue including a grand hall and Erg room with large sliding doors opening to an outdoor balcony making it an impressive location for your next meeting or gathering. It includes a kitchen, locker rooms, an atrium in the entrance, a large outdoor dock, and a curated display of Penn Rowing memorabilia.

Palestra
The Palestra, historically known as the Cathedral of College Basketball, was completed in 1927 and is still at the top of the list for best College Basketball arenas. With its history and layout, the space is perfectly built for not only basketball and volleyball, but also wrestling, gymnastics, boxing, tennis matches, galas, concerts, large gatherings, conferences, large dinners and much more!

- Capacity: Over 8,000 in the stands, 100-800 on the floor
- Includes: A/V, separate hospitality spaces, concession stands, hoops, volleyball nets, chairs, tables, and great lighting

Micahnik Fencing Center
The David Micahnik Fencing Center is home to the University of Pennsylvania’s varsity fencing team. The facility features 10,000 square feet of space and 14 fencing strips, each with their own unique scoring system. The unique design and character of this space has allowed it to increase popularity for not only fencing practice and tournaments, but for graduations, large celebrations, orientation events, career fairs, and more!

Rockwell
Rockwell Gymnasium is primarily used by the University of Pennsylvania's basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, and wrestling practices and meets. This 6,000 square feet space is equipped with six retractable baskets and retractable bleachers, a fully operational scoreboard, shot clock board at each end of the court, and Robbins Basketball Flooring. This is a great space for sporting events and practice, concerts, speaking engagements, graduations, photo shoots and much more!

- Capacity: 200 seated, 400 on the floor
- Includes: Basketball hoops, scoreboard, men/women basketball and volleyball inlaid lines, pull-out bleachers, and large windows overseeing the atrium

Weightman Gym
The Weightman Gym is an auxiliary space that is used in multiple functions. The University of Pennsylvania’s student groups, clubs, and intramural groups all utilize this large space for practice and hosting events. This gym has a functional scoreboard, 6 fixed basketball hoops, and mental bleachers that can be moved according to the needs of the event. Weightman Gym is used for sporting events and practice, speaking engagements, photo shoots, dance competitions, indoor field days, student group events and parties.

- Includes: Basketball hoops, bleachers, scoreboard, men/women basketball, volleyball, and badminton inlaid lines, and optional hospitality space

Hecht Tennis Center
The indoor tennis center provides eight full courts used by Penn students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Primarily used for tennis matches and practices, the Tennis Center can be converted into a large venue for graduations, large celebrations, corporate events, and special dinners. Access to the mezzanine, overseeing four total courts, creates a unique space to place a VIP area, catering, or a DJ during your event.

- Includes: Tennis nets and lining, locker rooms, mezzanine, and chairs

Squash
The Penn Squash Center, renovated in 2019, is an exclusive and beautiful space with 12 courts, private restrooms, and ADA accessible floors. for small gatherings and events. The renovated mezzanine makes a perfect space to host a cocktail hour before leading upstairs to an open, carpeted floor overlooking the squash courts. Whether your group are fans of squash or not, this space can add some flare to any event.

- Capacity: 50-150
- Usages: Social gatherings, small meetings, and celebrations

Sheerr Pool
The Sheerr pool is home to the Penn men’s and women’s swimming and diving team and has the capacity to be a 2 short-course pool (25 meters and 25 yards, 12 lanes) or 1 long course pool (50 meters, 6 lanes). It is used primarily by recreational patrons as well as clubs and intramural groups. The pool can host various events such as swim practices, swim lessons, camps/clinics, residential services events, STEM projects, and photo/video shoots.

- Capacity: 20-300 in the pool, 525 seated in the stands
- Includes: Adjustable Lane lines, pool equipment, handi-accessible chair, on-deck dry sauna and shower, locker rooms, benches, and lifeguards.

Gimbel
The Gimbel gymnasium, located in the Pottruck Health and Fitness Center, is open to students, faculty, and alumni for recreational activities. Gimbel has six hoops and inlaid lining for full and half court games. The 94,640 square feet allows for a multitude of activities other than basketball, such as judo tournaments, club practices, wellness clinic, camps/clinics, resource fairs, receptions, and private informal recreation.
