How It Happened
Penn once again struck first in this one, putting up three runs in the second inning, with a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly, and an error scoring the Quakers' first three runs. Penn then picked up a run in the third off another wild pitch.
Yale was able to strike back with two runs of their own, when Ella Cross singled up the middle and Grace Westmoreland drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
Two of Penn's hottest hitters,
Jaz Johnson and
Delaney Smith, took the reins once to bring in three runs and give Penn a 7-2 lead. Johnson delivered via a single while Smith got the job done with a double off the top of the wall that was inches away from leaving the ballpark.
Up 7-3 in the top of the seventh, Penn got into a jam when Yale began to put runners on with consistency. A few errors from Penn worsened the situation, with Yale grabbing three runs in the half inning. With a two outs and a runner on third, pitcher
Hannah Graveline was able to force a lineout and secure her first career save.
