How It Happened
The Quakers started the regular season finale hot, leading 5-3 after the first quarter, after Berkery, O'Brien, Welch, and Columbia-Walsh all scored within two minutes of each other. The Bears allowed Penn to score one last goal in the first half, with senior Columbia-Walsh finding the back of the net again with 12:38 left in the second but answered with a dominant six-goal run to lead 9-6 at halftime.
The Red and Blue came out of the break with a chip on their shoulder, answering with a four-goal run, carried by back-to-back goals from junior Berkery, who pushed Penn ahead 10-9 with 3:14 left of the third. The Bears' offense would not back down as Sliwkowski evened the game at ten to end the third before giving Brown a one-goal lead with 13:51 left of regulation.
The rest of the fourth was just as entertaining, as sophomore Green knocked in two goals to give the Quakers a 12-11 lead with 5:35 left, but Brown responded right back with a pair of their own to lead by one with 1:06 on the clock. Senior Columbia-Walsh tried to salvage Senior Day, completing her hat trick in the final seven seconds to force overtime.
Unfortunately for the Quakers, Brown was able to capitalize on a caused turnover to allow Sliwkowski to net the overtime winner to put the game at its final tally at 14-13.
