PHILADELPHIA – Freshman infielder
Jay Secretarski and senior co-captain
Thomas Shurtleff were named the Ivy League's Rookie and Pitcher of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced.
Secretarski has been a key performer for Penn in 2026, starting all 29 games in the infield. The Asheville, N.C. native registered a hit or more in each game of the three-game set versus Cornell and tallied a base knock against Lafayette on Tuesday. The freshman infielder is on an eight-game hitting streak and notched seven RBIs over the past week, including a two-run home run. His best outing of the week was during Game 2 on Saturday, when he collected three RBIs with a two-run home run in the first inning and a single to right in the sixth. Secretarski is tied for first in the Ivy League in walks drawn (22) and ranks third in stolen bases (17).
Shurtleff was the Quakers' standout performer on the mound over the weekend against Cornell, notching a career-high seven strikeouts in six innings of work out of the bullpen. The senior co-captain did not surrender a run over that stretch and allowed only four hits and one walk in 23 batters faced. Shurtleff is up to four wins this campaign and his 3.60 ERA comes in at fifth in the conference. The Medfield, Mass. native's 45.0 innings pitched rank sixth in the Ivy League, and he has logged 30 strikeouts so far in 2026.
Penn continues non-conference action at Monmouth on Wednesday before making its way to Princeton over the weekend for a three-game series.
