Lightweights Rowing For Dodge, Colgan Cups Saturday at Yale

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania lightweight men's crew is back to racing this Saturday, the Quakers continuing their cup season on the Housatonic River in Derby, Conn. The Marcellus Hartley Dodge Cup will be on the line in the Varsity Eights race as Penn lines up with Yale and Columbia, while the Colgan Points Cup will be in play throughout the day's racing.

Yale leads the all-time series in the Dodge Cup, with 41 wins compared to Penn's 17 and Columbia's eight. The three crews split the Colgan Cup through its first three years of existence, with Yale winning it in 2022 and Columbia taking it in 2023 before the Quakers swept the Dodge and Colgan Cups each of the last two years. In last year's 1V8 race, Penn retained the Dodge Cup by beating second-place Yale by early three seconds and third-place Columbia by eight seconds on the Cooper River.

In the Week 1 IRCA/IRA national polls, released Wednesday, Penn's Lightweight Varsity Eight was ranked third behind Harvard and MIT while Yale was ranked seventh and Columbia was ranked tenth.

About the Dodge Cup
The Marcellus Hartley Dodge Cup was named after the late Marcellus Hartley Dodge, a member of the Columbia Class of 1903 and a former coxswain for the Lions.

About the Colgan Cup
The Colgan Cup was introduced in 2022 and is named after rowing legend Charles "Chuck" Colgan C'50, who captained the Penn crew as a senior and later went on to coach at Columbia as well as Penn, La Salle, Saint Joseph's and Vesper AC.  The cup was donated by his sons to honor him and is given to the overall points winner from the day's racing between Penn, Columbia and Yale.
