How It Happened
Fouls impacted the score early in the game with the Big Green's Madeline Eagen and juniors Berkery and O'Brien for Penn striking off free position shots within the first six minutes to put the game at 2-1 with 9:15 left of the first. Two minutes later, Dartmouth's offense was able to find a rally off back-to-back goals from Katie Barr and Samantha Bennett to lead by a tally. The conference clash continued to be back-and-forth as senior Columbia-Walsh evened things at three to end the offense in the first.
A foul on Dartmouth allowed attacker Columbia-Walsh to score off a free position and give the Quakers a 4-3 lead three minutes into the second quarter. Another penalty on the Big Green a few minutes later allowed freshman Hrizch to set up attacker Berkery's second of the day with 7:37 left of the first half. Keeper Sedransk did her part to keep Dartmouth off the board in the period, making six saves to end the quarter. Sophomore Zaremba rubbed salt into the wound to end the half, netting her first of the year with eight seconds left to push the lead to 6-3 heading into the break.
The Quakers continued to dominate to open the third, as junior Welch accepted a feed from Berkery four minutes into to extend the lead to four goals. Dartmouth finally slashed Penn's run off a score from Fiona O'Keeffe to push the game to 7-4 with 8:43 on the clock. O'Brien was able to negate the Big Green's goal not even two minutes later, netting her second of the outing to make the cushion four again. Dartmouth closed out the third scoring three unanswered goals, with one coming from a player-up advantage, to put the deficit at 8-7 heading into the final 15 of regulation.
Penn locked to open the fourth, scoring five unanswered goals stretching 13 minutes into the quarter to create a 12-7 lead with time running off the clock. Columbia-Walsh, Welch, Hrzich, and Bartlett account for the Red and Blue's goals in the run. The Big Green finally got on the board with 4:12 left of the period, followed by both teams exchanging goals, not even two minutes later. The conference clash was tight to the final buzzer as freshman Bartlett scored another with 17 seconds remaining, followed by Dartmouth's Lauren Riley scoring with two seconds on the clock, but it was too late for a Big Green comeback as time expired with the score at 14-10 in Penn's favor.
