Gymnastics Claims Fifth Straight GEC Regular Season Title

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For the fifth season in a row, the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team has claimed the regular season title for the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC), as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

It was truly a historic regular season for the Quakers once again. The Red and Blue broke the program record for wins in a regular season with 23, breaking the previous record of 22 set in 2012.

The Quakers finish the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record against Ivy League opponents and 13-0 against fellow GEC programs. They currently sit at #38 in the Road to Nationals rankings, which would shatter the previous best record of #45 in the rankings.

"I am so proud of the of our team this season to earn the regular season title," says Head Coach Kirsten Becker. "Throughout the season, we primarily focused on consistency both in practice and competition and I was very proud to see the follow-through to accomplish this. We're hoping to showcase this on Saturday for the GEC Championship!"

Penn will now turn its eyes toward the GEC Championship this weekend, hosted in Ithaca, N.Y. The Quakers have now secured two of the three components needed for the "treble", with the Championship being the final domino to fall.
