PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team swept Navy in its season opening doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Hecht Tennis Center.
 
The match began with the Quakers taking all three doubles matches as they took a 1-0 lead.
 
The dynamic duo of Manfredi Graziani and Aaron Sandler got the morning started with 6-0 sweep over Legaspi/Buckingham.
 
Vojtech Vales and Shaurya Bharadwaj followed with another sweep for the Quakers, defeating Ayinala/Etterbeek in the second doubles match.
 
Finally, Matthew Rutter and Parashar Bharadwaj completed the three match sweep for Penn, defeating Kim/Cutone 6-3 in the final doubles match.
 
Graziani defeated Herrick Legaspi (6-4, 6-2) for his first singles victory of 2026, as Penn continued to dominate.
 
Matthew Rutter had an impressive first victory of the season over Jeffery Etterbeek (6-1, 6-0).
 
Justin Chung, Nischal Spurling and Stephan Gershfeld also secured their first wins of the spring season.
 
Aaron Sandler won the final singles match of the morning, defeating George Cutone (6-4, 6-2) as the Quakers completed the 7-0 sweep in the first match.
 
The Quakers won two out of three doubles matches in the second match, going up 1-0 early.
 
The freshman trio of Vojtech Vales, Nischal Spurling and Adam Bain each recorded their first singles wins of the season, as Penn extended the lead.
 
Luka Butera and Shaurya Bharadwaj earned the final two singles victories in the second match as Penn prevailed with a 6-1 win.
