Fencing Claims Nine Wins on First Day of Dave Micahnik Penn Invite

PHILADELPHIA – The nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania fencing programs hosted the first day of the Dave Micahnik Penn Invitational on Saturday at the Tse Center.
 
Penn had a stellar first day with the #7 men going 5-0 while the #8 women went 4-2 to end the first day of action.
 
The men opened the New Year with a bang, topping Haverford (17-10), UC San Diego (20-7), NYU (16-11), Lafayette (24-3), and Sacred Heart (24-3) to move to 11-2 on the season. Both the foil and saber athletes put on flawless performances, winning their respective weapons in all matchups overall.
 
The women grabbed four commanding wins over Haverford (26-1), NYU (22-5), Lafayette (23-4), and Sacred Heart (24-3) to shift to seven wins on the season. The saber athletes stood tall in all battles, taking the overall saber meetings.
