How it Happened
Both teams entered the match with an energy, and it showed early as the passing and hustle showed signs of high adrenaline.
Princeton had the first big opportunity of the match. Princeton moved the ball down the pitch decisively. Following some nice one-time, pinball passing between the squad, senior forward Ally Murphy fed the ball to junior forward Isabella Garces, who put heated one-timer on the net for a goal. This goal would be the match decider.
The rest of the first half held the same intensity as before yet fundamentals began to prevail. Princeton had the edge in the first half, outshooting Penn 9-2 and drawing corners at a higher rate as well (5-1). Despite the shot deficit, the Quakers ended the first half much better than they began.
The second half opened with the Quakers picking up where they left off. They put pressure on the Tigers, holding time in opposing territory early and often in the second frame. The Tigers would hold firm, however.
The best chance either team had down the stretch came at the 58th minute, when Ally Murphy put a shot on from just outside the box and nailed the bottom of the crossbar, shooting downward before another shot could be handled by senior goaltender
Annabel Austen.
As has been the case for the previous six times in the last seven matches, a 1-0 score was all that was needed in this one. The Quakers' Ivy League play continues Saturday, September 27 as they take on Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
