PHILADELPHIA – Becoming the 26th different player in the history of the University of Pennsylvania baseball team to be drafted,
Wyatt Henseler was taken with the 261st pick in the ninth round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals on Monday afternoon.
Henseler graduated Penn in 2024 as the program's all-time leader in hits (232), runs (181), doubles (50), home runs (54), total bases (452), and RBIs (189).
He led the Quakers to back-to-back Ivy League Tournament titles in 2023 and 2024 and was named the Most Valuable Player of the ILT in the 2024 postseason. He was voted the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year in 2024 after leading the team in batting average (.360), runs (64), hits (72), home runs (22), RBIs (56), total bases (151), slugging percentage (.755), hit-by-pitches (14), and on-base percentage (.465).
During that season, Henseler also paced the conference in hits, runs, homers, RBIs, and total bases. He left University City as the Ivy's all-time leader in home runs, RBIs, and total bases.
Following four legendary seasons in Philadelphia, Henseler played the final year of his eligibility at Texas A&M, where he started all 56 games between second and third base, leading the Aggies with a .319 average, 12 homers, 15 doubles, and 33 RBIs.
Henseler closed his collegiate career batting .344 with 280 hits, 66 home runs, 58 doubles, and 205 RBIs. He had a career 1.106 OPS with a .439 on-base percentage and .667 slugging mark.
The Emmaus, Pa. native joins Josh Hood (Boston Red Sox in 2019) as the only two Penn infielders drafted in the last 20 years.
