PHILADELPHIA— The University of Pennsylvania softball team fell short in their standalone game at Lehigh earlier this afternoon, the Mountain Hawks taking the game 7-2 at Leadership Park.
The Quakers drop to 1-17 on the season with the result.
Final: Lehigh 7, Penn 2
Through the first four innings of play, the teams remained deadlocked at zeroes with pitchers Kelly Zybura and Maria Urban handling the first rotation through the lineup with ease. Entering the fourth inning, each pitcher had only given up one hit each. Lehigh opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three after some successful small-ball offense.
In the top of the fifth, the Quakers capitalized on an error by Lehigh's left fielder that allowed Megan Huang and Maia Hartley to come home, putting two runs on the board for Penn. The Mountain Hawks struck back in their half of the inning, resuming their small-ball offensive strategy to plate four more runs, bringing the score to 7-2 by the end of the fifth inning.
