PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania's fourth-ranked women's squash team fell to No. 5 Stanford in a competitive match Thursday afternoon at the Penn Squash Center, 6-3.
The Cardinal pulled ahead in the first wave of Thursday's matches, leading 3-0 as Hailey Wong, Franka Vidovic, and Ashna Tumuluri all suffered losses. The Quakers closed in on the lead in the second wave, victories from Sohaila Ismail and Yoshna Singh putting a point each on the board. Fighting through five games, Singh was able to clinch her match after 48 minutes, while Ismail battled through three extra-point games to secure her victory. Malak Khafagy then swept her match in the third wave, bringing the score to 4-3 with two matches still in the balance.
Savannah Ingledew battled through four tight games against Stanford's Amelie Haworth, stopping several times through the match due to injury. Despite each stop, the two played on. Ingledew took Game One but was bested by Haworth in the following three games. The contest between the two took 52 minutes, testing their endurance and marking the longest match of the evening. With Haworth's victory, the Cardinal secured their insurmountable fifth point and the victory.
