How It Happened
Though it was a high-scoring battle for the Quakers, the first period was fairly quiet for both teams, with senior Chung breaking the scoreless tie with 11:35 on the board to give Penn a lead that would not be relinquished. Temple responded not even 30 seconds later with its only goal of the first half to tie the game for the first and final time of the outing. Senior Brandt ended the quarter with her tenth tally of the year to give the Red and Blue a 2-1.
The Quaker offense exploded in the second period, scoring six unanswered goals to run down the clock. Senior Block opened the run with 12:49 left of the half, and sophomore Berkery, freshman Greene, senior Smith, and sophomore Welch followed to push Penn ahead 8-1 going into halftime.
The Red and Blue stayed hot to open the third as attacker Berkery netted back-to-back goals within the first five minutes to record her second hat trick of the year and extend the lead to 10-1. The Owls finally slashed Penn's run with 9:13 left of the period, but Berkery responded with her fourth and final goal of the night. Junior Columbia-Walsh closed out the third period, scoring her first goal of the year on the player advantage to bump the deficit to 12-2,
Junior Noack came into the cage in relief of Sedransk to start the fourth, letting the Owls score one final time with 13:30 left of the game. Ultimately, it was too late for Temple to try and make a comeback as Smith scored with a little over ten minutes left to let the clock run and allow Brandt to score her 149th career goal to break the program record and put the nail in the coffin at 14-3.
