Yurkow To Be Inducted Into Rowan University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in October

PHILADELPHIA – His success as the W. Joseph Blood Head Coach of Penn Baseball is well-documented, but now John Yurkow will be inducted into the Rowan/Glassboro State Athletic Hall of Fame as a player, announced by the university's athletic department on Tuesday afternoon.

Yurkow, a 2001 graduate of Rowan University, joins five other individuals and two teams to complete the Class of 2025.

He put together a tremendous playing career with the Profs from 1996 to 1999, earning second-team All-America honors in 1999. During that campaign, he led Rowan to a 36-8 overall record and the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship. He was also a two-time selection to the NCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region team in 1998 and 1999.

A three-time All-NJAC selection at second base, Yurkow left Glassboro as the program's all-time leader in runs (179) and walks (175) in 150 games played. He also ranks among the top 10 in career stolen bases (55).

Yurkow began his coaching career at Rowan, from 1999-2001, before spending five seasons as an assistant coach at Duke. From 2006 to 2013, he was an assistant coach at Penn before taking the reins as head coach in 2014.

Over his first 10 full seasons as head coach, Yurkow has amassed an overall record of 227-188-1, third on the program's all-time wins list behind only Bob Seddon (634 wins from 1971-2005) and Walter Cariss (309 from 1920-43).

Yurkow is the architect behind three of the most successful seasons in program history from 2022-24 when the Quakers won a combined 91 games, a pair of Ivy League regular-season titles, and two Ivy League Tournament championships, earning a berth in back-to-back NCAA regionals.

The ceremony will be held during Rowan's Homecoming 2025 weekend with a brunch on Sunday, October 19. Registration information will be available later this spring on RowanAthletics.com.
